The Mercy College women's lacrosse team faced a nearly
insurmountable foe in East Coast Conference opponent, C.W.
Post. The Pioneers entered the game ranked third in the
nation and in the end, proved too much for the Mavericks, winning
23-4 in a game played on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mavericks fell behind early before freshman attacker
Julie Darnulc (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin)
scored the first of her three goals in the game to pull Mercy
within 5-1. The Mavericks added another goal in the first
half coming off the stick of freshman attacker Marissa Hurley (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd).
Darnulc added two goals late in the second half to complete the
Mavericks scoring. In the net, freshman goalie Lauren Mateja (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper
Merion) turned aside nine shots.
Mercy now owns a 6-5 overall record (2-3 ECC). The team
returns to action on Saturday, April 24, as they host ECC foe
Bridgeport in a game played under the lights in Purchase, New
York. The opening draw is slated for 7pm.
