The Mercy College baseball team let a game slip away on Friday afternoon, losing to C.W. Post, 13-2, in a game played at Mercy College. The Pioneers held a tenuous 1-0 lead after five innings, then scored four runs in the sixth, two in the eighth, and six more in the ninth.

Mercy starter Steve Merslich (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) pitched himself out of trouble several times in his five innings of work. He scattered just two hits, but walked four in taking the loss.

The Mavericks scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Mike Grassano (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) and Vinny Tesoriero (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore) had the RBI. Grassano had two hits on the day, as did Justin Muscarella (Plainedge, N.Y./Island Trees).

The series continues with a doubleheader in Dobbs Ferry on Saturday. First pitch takes place at noon.
