Men's Lacrosse Falls to Nationally Ranked NYIT

The Mercy College men's lacrosse team fell to nationally
ranked NYIT 18-8 today in ECC action. NYIT, ranked
8th by the USILA, scored the first seven goals of the
game en route to the win.
Mike Marzocca (North Babylon,
N.Y./North Babylon) led the scoring with three goals. Alex Martello (Montville,
N.J./Montville) assisted on two tallies. The Bears scored the
first seven goals of the game before Marzocca put the Mavericks on
the board. NYIT scored to make it 8-1 and then Marzocca
picked up his second goal of the game to bring the score to 8-2.
NYIT stretched the advantage to 9-2 before Erik
Grady (Medford, N.Y./Bellport) found the back of the
net just before halftime for a man down goal and made the score 9-3
at the intermission.
Mercy scored the first two goals of the third quarter as Sean Wallin (Mountain Lakes,
N.J./Mountain Lakes) beat the goalie on an unassisted tally and James Bugeya (Lakeland, N.Y./Lakeland)
put the ball in the goal while the Mavericks were a man up.
The Bears retaliated to make it 10-5 and then two goals courtesy of
Frank Henenlotter (Lynbrook,
N.Y./Lynbrook) and Marzocca brought Mercy within 10-7 late in the
third quarter.
NYIT pulled away to take the game 18-8. The Mavericks now
own a 3-8 ledger (2-5 ECC). Mercy returns to action on
Monday, April 26 in a contest against St. Anselm College. The
opening faceoff is scheduled for 3pm.
