Mercy Baseball Rallies to Earn Split at Dowling

Game 1 Linescore

Game 2 Linescore

The Mercy College baseball team rallied to earn a split of a doubleheader at Dowling College today, winning the nightcap 5-2 after losing the opener 2-0.

In the first game of the day, Mercy (7-12, 3-5 East Coast Conference) managed only two baserunners, one in the second, and one in the fourth. Neither runner advanced past first base.

Dowling (12-12, 7-6 ECC) scored a pair of earned runs in the first inning, and held on for the win. Sophomore Charles Dehart (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) pitched well for Mercy, throwing five innings, allowing just three hits while striking out two.

In game two, Mercy jumped out quickly, plating three runs in the first. Mercy combined a pair of hits and a fortuitous Dowling error for the runs. Senior Vinny Tesoriero (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore) had a key hit, a two-run double.

The Mavs then pushed the lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning, on a Matt Buesser (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) two-run single.

Junior Keith Kreig (City Island, N.Y./Mt. St. Michael's) pitched well for Mercy, scattering five hits in six innings. He allowed a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth. Billy Dring (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) earned his second save of the series, striking out two batters in the bottom of the seventh.

The teams have now split the first four games of the season series, with the fifth and final game to be played on Monday, April 5, at 3:00 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry.
