The Mercy College men's lacrosse team fell to Molloy
College 20-5 in an East Coast Conference game played in Rockville
Centre, New York on Wednesday. The Mavericks now own a 2-7
record, (1-4 ECC) while Molloy improves to 3-6 overall, (2-3
ECC).
Molloy jumped out a 2-0 lead in the first quarter as they found
the net twice in a span of nearly thirty seconds. The
Mavericks answered later in the first as freshmen John Fitzpatrick (Yorktown,
N.Y./Lakeland) and Mike Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y./North
Babylon) both scored unassisted goals to even the score at 2-2.
With the score tied at 2-2, the Lions roared ahead once again,
taking a 4-2
lead to end the first quarter. The Mavericks countered early
in the second quarter courtesy of a goal from junior midfielder Nicholas Rizzuto (Kings Park,
N.Y./Kings Park) off the feed from freshman James
Bugeya (Lakeland, N.Y./Lakeland). After Molloy
rattled off six goals, Marzocca found the net for the second time
in the game as he scored another unassisted goal to make the score
10-4. For Marzocca, it was his eleventh goal of the season
and it tied him with Alex Martello (Montville, N.J./Montville) for
the team lead. Mercy finished their scoring when Frank Henenlotter (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook)
hooked up with Bugeya, who found the net for the score.
For the game, Marzocca scored two goals. Bugeya picked up
a goal and an assist. As a team, Mercy took 36 shots in the
game, picked up 24 ground balls and won seven face-offs. The
Mavericks return to action on Saturday, April 17 as they host
Chestnut Hill College in an East Coast Conference game. The
faceoff is scheduled for 1pm.
