Women's Lacrosse Wins Inaugural ECC Game, Beating

The Mercy College women's lacrosse team claimed victory in
its first ever East Coast Conference contest today, winning at
Queens (N.Y.) College 20-11. Leading the way for the Mavericks
(5-2, 1-0 ECC) was freshman Jamie McPartland (North Massapequa,
N.Y./Farmingdale) who scored six goals, including the eventual
game-winner.
Mercy never trailed in the game, scoring the first seven
goals.
Freshman Marissa Hurley (Shirley,
N.Y./William Floyd) led off the scoring with the first of her five
goals on the day, just 58 seconds after the opening draw.
Kelsey Sullivan (Mastic, N.Y./Eastport
South Manor) then rattled off three consecutive goals in the next
five minutes, and the Mavericks were off to the races.
Brianna Horn (Wantagh, N.Y/Kellenberg)
scored goals five and six, then assisted on goal number seven,
which was scored by Kerry Goodnight (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport
Blue Point).
Mercy dominated play in the first half, outshooting the Knights
(1-8, 0-3 ECC) 22-5.
In the second half, Queens played more inspired, but Mercy
goalie Lauren Mateja (King of Prussia,
Pa./Upper Merion) was up to the task, making nine of her eleven
saves in the final 30 minutes.
For the game, McPartland had six goals, Hurley five, Horn had
four goals and one assist, Sullivan had three goals and one assist,
Goodnight one goal, and Brittany Ott (Copiague, N.Y./
Copiague) and Julie Darnulc (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin)
each had one assist.
