Mercy Men's Lacrosse Finishes First Season with
14-9 Win Over Lake Erie College

The Mercy College men's lacrosse team closed out its
inaugural season with a 14-9 victory over East Coast Conference
opponent Lake Erie College. The game was the first ever
played on campus at Mavericks Field in Dobbs Ferry.
The Mavericks (5-10, 3-7 East Coast Conference) jumped
out to a 3-0 and never trailed. Freshman Sean Wallin (Mountain Lakes,
N.J./Mountain Lakes) found Mike Marzocca (North Babylon,
N.Y./North Babylon) for the first score of the game at the 6:51
mark. Later in the first, Frank Henenlotter (Lynbrook,
N.Y./Lynbrook) scored a man-up goal off of a feed from Alex Martello (Montville,
N.J./Montville) to give Mercy a 2-0 advantage. The final
score of the first quarter was an unassisted goal from Martello.
The second quarter started with Mercy taking a 4-0 lead, as
Martello hooked up with Henenlotter for the second time, also in a
man-up situation. The Storm (3-10, 1-8 ECC) countered with a
goal to make the score 4-1, but the Mavericks responded with two
more goals as Wallin scored from a Joseph Pulido (Copiague, N.Y./Copiague)
assist, and John Thearle (Levittown,
N.Y./Island Trees) found the back of the net for an unassisted
goal. Lake Erie scored just before halftime and the Mavericks
took a 6-2 lead into the second half.
Henenlotter collected his third goal of the game early in the
third as he finished off a pass from Marzocca. Lake Erie
stormed back to score the next two and make the score 7-4.
After that, Mercy pushed the lead to five on a pair of man-up
goals. Henenlotter scored his fourth goal of the game with
Wallin getting the assist, and Henenlotter helped on a score from
Marzocca. With under a minute left in the third, the
Mavericks made the score 10-4 as Wallin found the back of the net
off a feed from John Fitzpatrick (Yortktown,
N.Y./Lakeland).
In the final quarter, Thearle, Wallin Fitzpatrick, and Marzocca
all closed out the scoring for Mercy. T.J. DiCarlo (Farmingdale,
N.Y./Farmingdale) made 16 saves between the pipes. Joseph Tristan (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal)
caused three turnovers and Michael Munch (West Babylon, N.Y./West
Babylon) scooped up five ground balls.
