an inexperienced St. Thomas Aquinas College team today, winning 3-0
in a non-conference game played in Purchase, N.Y. Mercy is 1-0 on
the season, while STAC falls to 0-2.
The Mavericks came out aggressive, and never relented,

the goal from the onset, but were caught offsides twice early on.
Junior Jamie Sabel (Pewaukee,
Wisc./UW-Milwaukee) was the first of several Mavericks
to hit the post today, just above the out-stretched hand of
Jeanette Gibson, the STAC keeper. Minutes later,
as the Mavericks continued to press, freshman Shelby Martino (Portola Hills, Calif./El
Toro) was hauled down in the box by STAC's
Nicole Biolsi, resulting in a penalty kick for
Mercy. Newcomer Caitlin McKenna (Massapequa Park,
N.Y./Massapequa) took the PK, and subtly deposited the
ball in the net with the first goal of her collegiate career.
Just minutes later, in the 26th minute, Alison Mrowinski (Syracuse,
N.Y./Solvay) hit the post, and the rebound came right
to the feet of Jackie Karras (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown
East), who found the far corner of the goal for a 2-0
Mavericks lead.
Early in the second half, Mercy scored the third and final goal
of the game when Jackie
Sabel (Pewaukee, Wisc./UW-Milwaukee) took a pass from
Mrowinski and scored.

Shore) made two saves, one coming in each half.
