Mercy Women's Basketball Struggled Early and Lost to Queens
The Mercy College women's basketball team got off to a slow start and never recovered; losing to Queens College 79-55 in East Coast Conference play on Wednesday night. Queens remains in the middle of the ECC with a 5-5 conference mark (6-11 overall), while Mercy is just 2-8 in the eight-team league (4-11 overall).
The Knights hit three-point field goals on its first and third possessions, and took an early 6-2 lead. Amanda Bartlett would score five of the Knights' first eight points of the game, as Queens never trailed in the game.
A jumper by senior Ashley Borofsky (Southington, Conn./Southington) would cut the lead to 8-5 at the 16:46 mark, but the Mavericks would get no closer.
Queens would lead by as many as 21 points in the first half, and as many as 28 in the game, and record the win.
For the game, Bartlett and Chris Harnishfeger would each score 26 points for Queens, while Mercy junior Jasmine Williams (Stratford, Conn./Greens Farms Academy) recorded the game's sole double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Mercy returns to action on Saturday, January 22, at St. Thomas Aquinas at 1:00 p.m.
