Field Hockey Falls to Moravian in 4-0 Decision

BOXSCORE - Mercy vs. Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Oct. 18, 2011) – On Tuesday afternoon, the Mercy College field hockey unit ventured down to Bethlehem, Pa. to take on the Greyhounds of Moravian College. The Mavericks dropped the afternoon sparring, 4-0. With the victory, Moravian upped its overall record to 7-6. Following the defeat, Mercy dropped to 1-14 on the season.

The Greyhounds kicked off the scoring with a goal in the seventh minute from junior forward Tori Poliskiewicz (Bangor, Pa.). She was assisted by fellow junior forward Briana Van Buskirk (Stroudsburg, Pa.). Van Buskirk scored her first goal of the day three minutes later when she received a feed from rookie midfielder Catherine Duffin (Moorestown, N.J.) and fired it past Mercy sophomore goalkeeper Tracey Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.).

Van Buskirk added her second and third markers of the contest at the 31:51 and 44:25 marks, respectively, to notch the hat trick. Poliskiewicz and Duffin recorded the assists, respectively.

Mercy freshman forward Yolie Nyero (Carlisle, Pa.) racked up five shots on goal.

Between the pipes for the Mavericks, Wandle stopped 11 shots. Sophomore GK Andrea Eck (Catasauqua, Pa.) and junior GK Catherine Gottlieb (Blackwood, N.J.) both logged time in net for the Greyhounds. Eck earned the win, played 55:14 and made three saves. Gottlieb stopped three shots in her 14:46 of playing time.
