BOXSCORE - Mercy vs. Richard Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. (Oct. 27, 2011) – On Thursday afternoon, the Mercy College field hockey squad closed out its 2011 campaign with a 9-1 defeat at the hands of Richard Stockton College in Galloway, N.J. With the win, the Ospreys improved to 9-7 overall. Following the loss, the Mavericks dropped to 1-15 on the season.

Richard Stockton jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the third minute of the game, but Mercy eventually countered that with a tally from freshman forward Marissa Kluber (Wading River, N.Y.) in the 19th minute. Kluber found a loose ball right before the Ospreys goalkeeper was able to, and fired it into the back of the netting for her third goal of the year.

Unfortunately, Richard Stockton went on to score two additional goals in the first half to grab the lead before halftime. After the intermission, it was all Ospreys, as the hosts netted six unanswered goals to finish the 9-1 victory.

For the Mavericks, sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), who returned from an injury absence that kept her out for the last five games, stopped eight shots. Those eight saves brings her total for the year to 122. Her saves-per-game mark of 11.09 should be good enough to win her the NCAA Division II field hockey title in that category. This concludes the 2011 season for Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks. Please continue to check www.MercyAthletics.com throughout the offseason for any news and notes pertaining to the program.
