The Mavericks were unlucky not to get the win against in their first match, as they outplayed the Chargers on both sides of the court but fell victim to a whopping 18 service aces and 10 ball-handling errors.

Mercy took the first set, 25-23, but fell in the next two to go down 2-1.  The squad responded with another 25-23 victory in the fourth set to even the match and force a fifth set, but could not quite manage the win, falling 15-11.

Freshman outside hitter Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev.), ranked No. 4 overall and tops among freshmen in Division II in kills-per-set, tied her career high in leading the match with 27 kills and added 10 digs for her 14th double-double of the season.  Sophomore outside hitter Nicolette Gebhardt (Middletown, N.Y.) smashed 17 kills on an impressive .382 hitting percentage, while freshman libero Ericka Kane (Glendale, Ariz.) led the team with four service aces and 20 digs.  Freshman setters McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz.) and Michala Askew (Ringgold, Ga.) combined to make 47 assists in the match, with Askew adding 13 digs for another double-double.

A trio of juniors led the way to victory for the Chargers, as middle blocker Courtney Heard (Ventura, Calif.) topped the squad with nine kills on a .346 hitting percentage while libero Jordyn Fuller (Keller, Texas)'s 18 digs were tops among three Chargers to break into double digits.  Setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, Calif.) made 31 assists while leading the team with seven service aces.

Mercy 1, Goldey-Beacom 3

The Lightning jumped out to a two-set lead in the Mavericks' next match thanks to incredible hitting percentages of .577 and .560, but the Mavericks pulled one back in winning the third set, 25-22, before attack errors killed their hopes in the fourth set as they lost, 3-1.

White broke the 20-kill barrier for the 13th time this season, smashing 23 on a .333 hitting percentage to raise her kills-per-set average to 4.76 and tied with junior defensive specialist Marissa Hurley (Shirley, N.Y.) for the team lead with eight digs.  Gebhardt reached double digits in kills again with 15 kills while Ronan and Askew combined for 37 assists.
