BOXSCORE - Mercy vs. Ramapo

PURCHASE, N.Y. (Oct. 8, 2011) - Coming off its first victory in program history, the Mercy College field hockey team took to the field against Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field at Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y. The Mavericks were denied their chance at a second-consecutive win as the Roadrunners defeated them, 6-1. With the win, Ramapo improves to 7-4 overall. Following the loss, Mercy dropped to 1-11 on the year.

The Roadrunners took an early 1-0 lead in the first minute of play as junior forward Katie Bruno (Middletown, N.Y.) found the back of the netting. In the span of the next twelve minutes, Ramapo added two insurance goals. The two squads went into halftime with the visitors up, 3-0.

Bruno scored her second goal of the day four minutes after the intermission. The Roadrunners tacked on two more tallies before Mercy scored its first goal of the game off the stick of junior forward Callie Schwichtenberg (San Diego, Calif.) in minute 58. Sophomore defender Kristen Sliman (Brewster, N.Y.) was responsible for the assist.

For Ramapo, Bruno finished with two goals, while senior forward/midfielder Jayne Manigrasso (Atlantic Highlands, N.J.) had two goals and one assist. Senior forward Amanda Barretta (Roseland, N.J.) contributed one goal and one assist. Between the pipes, junior GK Rebecca Elliott (Brick, N.J.) earned the win and stopped four saves.

In goal for the Mavericks, junior Brittany Ott (Copaigue, N.Y.) made two saves and was strapped with the loss.
