Franklin Pierce Tops Men's Basketball, 92-46

MANCHESTER, N.H. (Nov. 12, 2011) – The Mercy College men's basketball squad dropped to 0-2 overall on Saturday night when the Mavericks fell to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University, 92-46, in their second and final game of the Southern New Hampshire University Tournament. Following the victory, the Ravens improved to 2-0 on the year.

Franklin Pierce jumped out to the early lead with 12 unanswered points following the tipoff. The Ravens drained a trio of three-pointers during that stretch. Franklin Pierce continued to have success from downtown, shooting 42.9% (6-14) in the first half, enroute to grabbing a 41-19 lead at halftime.

The second half was much of the same with the Mavericks unable to find a consistent rhythm, despite improving their field goal percentage from the first half (41.7% from 32.0%).

For Mercy, junior forward Joseph Pope (Akron, Ohio) once again led the team with 13 points off the bench, while junior guard Colin Senior (Hackensack, N.J.) reached double-digits by netting 10 points. Three different Mavericks grabbed six rebounds each.

For the Ravens, sophomore guard Curtis Christian (Harlem, N.Y.) scored the game-high 15 points, while three other Franklin Pierce players had 11 points each. Sophomore forward/center Matt Barboza (East Providence, R.I.) notched a team-best six boards.

Head Coach Adam Parmenter and his squad will look to earn their first victory of the season on Wednesday when they travel to Caldwell, N.J. to face Caldwell College in non-conference action. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
