WEST HAVEN, Conn. (Dec. 8, 2011) – Stepping back on the court after a heartbreaking loss like the Mercy College men's basketball team endured last night against Molloy College (62-59) can be tough. Even tougher, however, is doing so the very next night. The Mavericks did that as they ventured to West Haven, Conn. and faced off against the University of New Haven in Charger Gymnasium on Thursday evening. The Chargers downed the Mavericks, 72-48.

New Haven (6-2) jumped out to a 10-0 run to start the game and put together a very strong first half that became increasingly more and more difficult for Mercy (1-7) to come back from. The Chargers eased into halftime with the score in their favor, 43-25.

The second half was much of the same as the Mavericks couldn't find an answer for the Chargers' fluid offense.

For Mercy, sophomore forward Kirk Bailey (Freeport, N.Y.) led the team with 14 points, while sophomore forward/center Jordan Lee (Englewood, N.J.) followed up his 10-rebound effort against Molloy last night, with 10 points tonight against the Chargers.

For New Haven, sophomore guard Justin Exum (Brooklyn, N.Y.) racked up a game-high 15 points, while junior guard Jeremy Williams (Silver Spring, Md.) and sophomore forward Krystian Foriest (Bronx, N.Y.) added 13 and 10, respectively.

Head Coach Adam Parmenter and his team take to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon when the Mavericks travel to Princess Anne, Md. to battle the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The opening tipoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. UMES will carry a live audio broadcast of the game available HERE.
