The Mercy women's basketball team dropped their East Coast Conference matchup against NYIT today, 84-61.  The Mavericks (4-16, 6-19 ECC) came out of the gate slow and never led.  The Bears (8-17, 6-14), who shot over 55% from the floor for the contest, capitalized on Mercy's slow start and poor shooting early.

To start the game, NYIT went on a 20-2 run, leading by 18 points less than five minutes into the contest.  The Bears held the 48-27 led at the end of the first stanza.

The second half saw the Mavericks unable to shorten NYIT's lead, and the Bears took the game 84-61.

For Mercy, senior Ashley Borofsky (Southington, Conn./Southington) led with 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds with four steals.  Coming off the bench, junior MarQuesha Moore (Bryans Road, Md./Lackey) chipped in nine points and grabbed five rebounds in only 12 minutes of play.  NYIT's Cierra Baker had the game's only double-double, with an impressive 26 points and 17 rebounds.

The Mavericks play their final game of the season on Feb. 26, taking on Dowling College in the Mercy College Gym.  Prior to the game, Mercy will be honoring Borofsky, Courtney Cochran (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth), and Samantha DeVore (Norwich, Conn/Norwich Free Academy) as part of Senior Day.  Additionally, Borofsky will be honored for recently achieving the 1,000 point mark.
