Mavericks Drop ECC Matchup with NYIT, 84-61
The Mercy women's basketball team dropped their East Coast
Conference matchup against NYIT today, 84-61. The Mavericks
(4-16, 6-19 ECC) came out of the gate slow and never led. The
Bears (8-17, 6-14), who shot over 55% from the floor for the
contest, capitalized on Mercy's slow start and poor shooting
early.
To start the game, NYIT went on a 20-2 run, leading by 18 points
less than five minutes into the contest. The Bears held the
48-27 led at the end of the first stanza.
The second half saw the Mavericks unable to shorten NYIT's
lead, and the Bears took the game 84-61.
For Mercy, senior Ashley Borofsky (Southington,
Conn./Southington) led with 19 points and grabbed
seven rebounds with four steals. Coming off the bench, junior
MarQuesha Moore (Bryans Road, Md./Lackey)
chipped in nine points and grabbed five rebounds in only 12 minutes
of play. NYIT's Cierra Baker had the game's only
double-double, with an impressive 26 points and 17 rebounds.
The Mavericks play their final game of the season on Feb. 26,
taking on Dowling College in the Mercy College Gym. Prior to
the game, Mercy will be honoring Borofsky, Courtney Cochran (Wilmington, Del./St.
Elizabeth), and Samantha DeVore (Norwich, Conn/Norwich Free
Academy) as part of Senior Day.
Additionally, Borofsky will be honored for recently achieving the
1,000 point mark.
