It was a busy day for the Maverick nine, as the Mercy College baseball team defeated Pitt-Johnstown 3-2 on Thursday. Mercy began the day in New York, and flew to Fort Pierce, Fla., prior to today's game.

Freshman John Tricario (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) was the starter, going six solid innings, allowing just two runs.  Junior Charles Dehart (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) got the win in relief, hurling three innings of shutout ball.

The Mavericks (2-4) pushed across the game-winning run in the eighth, as senior Matt Walsh (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) singled, and was sacrificed to second. With two outs, freshman Jesus Jaile (Hartsdale, N.Y./Fordham Prep) drove Walsh home with a single.

Mercy returns to action on Friday, March 11, with a doubleheader against Southern Connecticut.
