Ninth Inning Rally Pushes Mercy to 7-6 Win Over UNH

The Mercy College baseball team (4-6) scored five runs in the ninth inning to beat the University of New Haven, 7-6, in a game played in Boca Raton, Fla. New Haven is curtrently ranked #5 in the East Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Senior Matt Walsh (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) and freshman Corey Lopez (New City, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) had key hits in the ninth inning rally, which was prolonged by two UNH errors.

Junior Walt Kowalczyk (Valhalla, N.Y./Briarcliffe) pitched 4.1 innings to earn the win, while senior Steve Marsar (Seaford, N.Y./Holy Trinity) threw a scoreless ninth to earn the save.

Senior Michael Ferrante (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) and freshman Anthony Simon (Sloatsburg, N.Y./Suffern) each had two hits in the game.

Mercy will play UMass-Lowell on Tuesday, morning at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
