#8 Mercy Men's Lacrosse Dominates FPU, 22-4
With goals coming from ten different players, the Mercy College
men's lacrosse team dominated Franklin Pierce University
22-4, in a Mavericks' home game that was played in Danbury,
Conn. With the win, the Mavericks, ranked #8 in the latest
USILA Coaches Poll, remain undefeated with a 5-0 record. The
Ravens suffered their first loss of the season, bringing their
record to 2-1.
In the first quarter, freshman Quadear Mike (Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse
Minoa) got the scoring started for Mercy on an
unassisted goal at 12:31. Mike has scored the
Mavericks' first goal, in four of Mercy's five games
this season. Freshman Jesse Wood
(Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) would score
Mercy's next two goals around one minute apart. A
fourth tally by Mike
Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) gave
Mercy the 4-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Mercy would continue to control play in the second quarter,
scoring five straight goals to take the 9-0 lead, before
FPU's Matthew Leslie eventually put the Ravens on the
board. Mercy held the 10-1 lead at the break.
The Mavericks did not let up at all in the second half,
outscoring the Ravens 7-2 in the third quarter and 5-1 in the
fourth quarter.
Leading the Mavericks was Wood, with five goals and two
assists. Patrick Hodapp (Oak Ridge,
N.Y./Jefferson) and Marzocca each had four
goals. Goalkeeper T.J.
DiCarlo (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) made ten
saves, earning his fifth win of the season.
The Mavericks are out on the road next, traveling to Erie, Pa.
to take on #6 ranked Mercyhurst on Saturday.
