Mercy Baseball Drops Game, Series to Molloy

In the rubber match of the five-game set, the Mercy College baseball team lost at Molloy today, 10-3. In the process, Molloy takes the series, 3-2, and remains in first place in the East Coast Conference at 10-4 (18-13 overall), while Mercy remains in sixth at 3-7 (9-15 overall).

Today's game was the only one in the series in which a team did not get shut out.

Molloy scored three in the second, and another three in the third. After Mercy plated one run in the top of the sixth, Molloy responded with three more in the bottom of the frame, taking a 9-1 lead with three inning to go.

Senior Keith Kreig (City Island, N.Y./Mt. St. Michael's) started and lasted just two innings, allowing three runs on three hits with three walks. Four other pitchers combined for the remaining seven innings.

For the Mavericks, senior Mike Grassano (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) had a pair of hits on the day, including a double and a triple. He scored each time, with the RBI going to classmate Mike Ferrante (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach).

Mercy opens up the Queens College series on Tuesday, April 12, at Mavericks Field in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
