#6 Mercy Men's Lacrosse Holds Off Dominican 15-10
After jumping out to an early lead, the #6 Mercy College men's
lacrosse team held off a late rally from Dominican College, and won
15-10 in an East Coast Conference game on Monday afternoon. Mercy
moved into first place in the ECC with the win, percentage points
ahead of second place C. W. Post.
The Mavericks are now 5-1 in conference play, and 9-1 overall.
Dominican, meanwhile, is 1-5 in the conference, and 2-9 overall.
Earlier today, Mercy was voted as the #6 team in the nation in the
latest USILA Coaches Poll.
Today, Mercy led 9-3 at the half, and 13-5 after three
periods.
In the opening quarter, the host Chargers opened the scoring on
an Alex Jones tally at the 9:11 mark. Senior Nick Fitzgerald (Yorktown,
N.Y./Yorktown) and freshman Bobby McDonough (Farmingdale,
N.Y./Plainedge) scored back-to-back goals to give
Mercy a 2-1 lead. DC's Korin Pierce tied the score before Mercy's
Quadear Mike (Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse
Minoa) put the Mavericks up for good.
On the day, ten different Mavericks scored goals, led by
freshman Pat Hodapp (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson)
and junior Sal Spinelli (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip/Nassau
CC), who each scored three times. Freshman Jesse
Wood (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) added three
assists.
In goal, sophomore T. J. DiCarlo (Farmingdale,
N.Y./Farmingdale) was spectacular, making 17
saves.
Up next for Mercy is a home date with Molloy College on
Thursday, April 14.
