Mercy Baseball Bests Queens, 4-2

The Mercy College baseball team opened up the series against Queens College with a 4-2 win on Friday. The Mavericks have now won two straight, improving to 11-15 overall, and 4-7 in the East Coast Conference. Queens falls to 6-24 overall, and 4-12 in the ECC.

Junior Tyler Savin (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur/Nassau C.C.) earned the win, throwing seven innings, allowing just two runs on three hits. He fanned five. Senior Steve Marsar (Seaford, N.Y./Holy Trinity) went the rest of the way, earning his second save of the season.

Senior Matt Walsh (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) had two hits with one RBI and one run scored to lead the attack. Classmate Graig Lauricella (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) also has two hits with a run scored. The key hit, though, came off the bat of Ken Post (Closter, N.J./St.Joseph's), who drove home a pair of runs with a single in the fourth inning.

The teams will meet two more times on Saturday, April 16, and twice more on Sunday, April 17, weather permitting.
