Mercy Softball Splits at STAC
The Mercy College softball team managed a split of a
doubleheader at St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, winning Game One,
5-4, before dropping Game Two, 1-0. Mercy is now 12-15, 6-8 in the
East Coast Conference, while STAC is 12-16, 7-9 in the ECC.
In the opener, the Mavericks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the
first inning, only to have the hosts tie the score in the bottom of
the sixth. In the seventh inning, senior Stephanie Owsiany (Edison,
N.J./Edison) drove home pinch runner Caitlin McHenry (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter
Panas) with the winning run. Freshman Tayla Gardner (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan
Zee) earned her fifth win of the season, allowing just
two earned runs.
In the night cap, STAC pushed across a run in the bottom of the
eighth inning for the win. Mercy managed just four hits in the
game. Freshman Mary Sieber (Massapequa,
N.Y./Massapequa) was the hard-luck loser, allowing
just the one run over 7.2 innings.
Mercy returns to action on Sunday, April 17, hosting Molloy.
