Tricario Earns Win as Mercy Baseball Beats C.W. Post
The Mercy College baseball team ran its winning streak to three
games by beating C. W. Post, 3-2, on Thursday afternoon. Mercy
(14-17; 7-9 East Coast Conference) has now won the first two games
of the five-game set, with Game Three set for Friday, before the
final two on Saturday.
Today, the Mavericks scored all three runs in the fourth inning,
with the first five batters in the inning all reaching base safely.
The key play was a bases-loaded fly ball off the bat of freshman Anthony Simon (Sloatsburg,
N.Y./Suffern) that was misplayed by the C.W. Post
rightfielder, which allowed the first two runs to score. Senior Mike Grassano (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream
South) had a sacrifice fly to plate classmate Matt
Walsh (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys)
with the third run.
On the mound, freshman John Tricario (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown
South) scattered five hits in seven and one third
innings, allowing two runs in the eighth. Junior Billy
Dring (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) earned the save by
getting the final five outs.
