Mercy Baseball Beats STAC 5-4

The Mercy College baseball team has now won four of its last five games, beating St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday, 5-4. Mercy is now 15-18 overall, and 8-10 in the East Coast Conference. STAC is 17-19-1, and 8-11.

Junior Tyler Savin (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur/Nassau CC) went five innings to earn the win, allowing three runs. Sophomore Tommy Cummings (Coatesville, Penn./Bishop Shanahan) threw the final four, yielding one run.

Junior Mike Gianzero (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) had a pair of triples, and two RBI to lead the attack. Senior Mike Grassano (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) had a run-scoring sacrifice fly, while classmate Matt Walsh (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) had a pair of hits.

The Mavericks continue the five-game series on Thursday, after playing the fifth and final game of the Queens series on Wednesday.
