Junior Tyler Savin threw a complete game four-hitter, as Mercy College beat Molloy in baseball today, 5-0, in an East Coast Conference matchup. Mercy has now won back-to-back games, this time beating the #9 team in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region poll.

Savin (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur/Nassau C.C.) was masterful, walking none while striking out one batter. He ran into trouble just once, in the third inning, as the first two batters reached base for the Lions (15-12, 7-3). But a double play and a groundout ended the threat.

The Mavericks (8-12, 2-4 ECC) scratched across a run in the fourth, and added two more runs in the sixth, and two more in the top of the ninth.

Offensively, Mercy was led by senior Matt Walsh (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys), who had two hits and scored twice, while driving in one. Freshman John Casten (Valley Central, N.Y./Valley Central) had one hit in his only official at bat. He also walked three times.

The series continues with Gane Two on Thursday, April 7, at Mercy College at 3:30 p.m.
