Mercy Women's Lacrosse Defeated by #10 Dowling 18-7
The Mercy College women's lacrosse team was defeated by
tenth ranked Dowling College today 18-7. The Mavericks fall
to 5-4 overall, including 1-1 in the East Coast Conference, while
the Golden Lions improve to 7-2 overall and remain undefeated in
the ECC with a 3-0 record.
Dowling dominated play from the start, scoring the first three
goals of the game before freshman Elizabeth Rjedkin (Howell, N.J./Colts Neck)
put Mercy on the board with an unassisted goal. The Golden
Lions answered back with strong play and led 11-3 at the break.
In the second half, Mercy was unable to put together any type of
run, and Dowling built on the lead. The Golden Lions would go
on to take the game 18-7.
For Mercy, sophomore Kelsey
Sullivan (Mastic, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) had three
goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie DiLegge (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore)
made 14 saves.
Dowling's Kelly Cefalu had five goals and Brooke Witkowski
added three goals and eight assists.
The Mavericks return to action on Tuesday, April 7 when they
travel to Molloy for a 7:00pm game.
