Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Molloy
The Mercy College baseball team split a doubleheader today with
Molloy, winning Game One, 4-0, before dropping Game Two, 3-0. The
series is now split 2-2, with the rubber game set for tomorrow at
1:00 p.m., at Mitchell Field on Long Island. Molloy remains in
first place in the East Coast Conference with a 9-4 mark (17-13
overall), while Mercy is sixth place at 3-6 (9-14).
In Game One, junior Billy
Dring (Mahopac N.Y./Lakeland) scattered three hits
over seven innings for the complete game win. Mercy scored three
runs in the first, and cruised to the win.
In the first inning, Mike Ferrante (Long Beach, N.Y./Long
Beach) singled to drive in two runs. In the fifth, Matt Walsh (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's
Boys) drove home Andrew Bock (Malverne, N.Y./Valley Stream
North) with an insurance run.
In Game Two, Molloy again had only three hits, but took
advantage of three Mercy errors for a 3-0 win. Jason Lembo went the
first six innings for the victory, giving way to Daniel Pelan, who
earned his third save of the season. For Mercy, John Tricario (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown
South) suffered the loss, allowing all three runs over
six innings pitched. Mercy had its best chance in the sixth, but
left the bases loaded.
