Five and a Half Hours Yields 1-2 Day for Mercy Baseball
After five and a half hours and 21 innings of play, the Mercy College baseball team suffered a pair of losses against one win today versus St. Thomas Aquinas. The day began with the continuation of a game from Friday, which STAC won, 6-4, in 13 innings. The first scheduled game for today also went to STAC, 22-2, before Mercy took the nightcap, 5-3.
In the continued game, which was picked up at the start of the ninth inning, the Spartans (21-21-1; 11-13 ECC) scored two in the top of the 13th off of Mercy senior Steve Marsar (Seaford, N.Y./Holy Trinity). Marsar threw well, pitching seven innings while allowing just the two runs.
In the first scheduled game of the day, the Mavericks (16-22; 9-14 ECC) managed just two hits. In Game Two, Mercy scored four times in the fifth on three hits and four walks in the inning. Freshman pitcher John Tricario (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) threw six innings, scattering four hits to earn the victory.
Mercy open the Bridgeport series this week with a single game on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. The game will be played at West Haven (Conn.) High School.
