The Mercy College baseball team split a doubleheader with Bridgeport today, winning Game Two, 2-1, in dramatic fashion on Senior Day. Game One went to UB 18-1.

Game Two was a close game, with Bridgeport (26-11; 19-8 ECC) scoring one run in the second inning off of Mercy starter Keith Kreig (City Island, N.Y./Mt. St. Michael's). For the game, Krieg went five innings, allowing just four hits and the one run.

Mercy (17-24; 10-16) got a single run in the bottom of the fourth, with senior Julio Torres (Harlingen, Texas/South) at the plate. With the bases loaded, Torres hit a sharp grounder which was booted by UB's short stop, and Mike Ferrante (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) came across the plate to score.

With the score still tied at one run apiece, Mercy came to bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two runners on and two outs, Andrew Bock (Malverne, N.Y./Valley Stream North) hit a hard single to center which scored Graig Lauricella (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) from second with the winning run.

Junior Tyler Savin (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur/Nassau CC) earned the win, throwing the final two innings of no-hit ball.

In the opener, UB scored early and often, pounding out 16 hits against five Maverick pitchers. Lauricella had Mercy's two hits in the game.

Playing their last game at home were the seven seniors on the roster: Ferrante, Mike Grassano (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South), Kreig, Lauricella, Steve Marsar (Seaford, N.Y./Holy Trinity), Torres, and Matt Walsh (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys).

The series continues on Saturday, with a single game at Bridgeport at 4:00 p.m., played at West Haven (Conn.) High School.
