Mercy Men's Lacrosse Falls in Season Finale 11-5
The #6 Mercy College men's lacrosse team suffered an 11-5
defeat at the hands of #7 Dowling College on Saturday night, in
front of a raucous crowd of 702 fans. Both teams finish the regular
season with identical 11-3 records, including similar 7-3 marks
inside the East Coast Conference.
Dowling scored twice in each of the first two quarters, holding
Mercy to just one goal, a tally from sophomore Alex Martello (Montville,
N.J./Montville) with just eight ticks remaining in the
first.
The third quarter saw a vast change, with seven total
goals scored. Dowling scored first, opening a 5-1 lead. Then, three
unanswered goals for Mercy pulled the Mavericks back within one at
5-4. But that was as close as the Mavericks would get.
Dowling scored three consecutive goals to close the third
quarter, then got the first two goals of the fourth quarter, and
the score was 10-4 with 9:45 to play. Freshman Jesse
Wood (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) scored his
second goal of the game late, followed by another goal from
Dowling, and the game ended at 11-5.
Wood added an assist to his two goals. Craig
Blom (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue/Suffolk
CC) and Sal
Spinelli (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip/Suffolk CC)
added the other goals for Mercy.
In goal, sophomore T. J. DiCarlo (Farmingdale,
N.Y./Farmingdale) made ten saves for the
Mavericks.
