The Mercy College baseball team managed six hits, but could not plate any runs, falling to the University of Bridgeport on Mother's Day, 9-0. UB takes the season series 4-1.

Freshman John Tricario (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) pitched well through five innings, holding the Purple Knights scoreless. In the sixth inning, though, UB figured him out, knocking four hits, combined with three walks, to yield six runs for the hosts.

UB got three more runs in the seventh for the 9-0 final.

For Mercy, senior Mike Ferrante (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) had a pair of hits, while classmate Matt Walsh (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) doubled.

The Mavericks (17-26, 10-18) conclude the regular season on Monday, with a doubleheader at C. W. Post.
