Field Hockey Stumbles Against Slippery Rock, 3-0

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 10, 2011) – Early Saturday morning, the Mercy College field hockey team was back on Kutztown University's field to spar against Slippery Rock University. The Mavericks and the Rock played to a scoreless first half, however, the hosts found the back of the netting three times in the second half to secure the 3-0 victory. With the win, the Rock improved to 1-3 overall. Following the loss, the Mavericks dropped to 0-5 on the year.
On the offensive side of the ball, Kaili Simmons, Allison Shade and Rebecca Williams had the three goals for Slippery Rock. In goal, Alexandra Kirsch and Courtney Lee each played a half.
For Mercy, sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made 12 saves. The Mavericks' defense is steadily improving in the beginning parts of contests recently. Yesterday, Mercy held Kutztown to just one goal in the first half, while today held the Rock to zero.
Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Hoboken, N.J. to take on the Stevens Institute of Technology. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
