Women's Soccer Edges Out Bentley for First Victory of Season, 1-0

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 13, 2011) – On Tuesday afternoon, the Mercy College women's soccer team played an outstanding game versus a 3-1 squad in Bentley University. The Mavericks defeated the Falcons, 1-0, to earn their first victory of 2011. With the win, the Mavericks improved to 1-4 overall. Following the loss, the Falcons dropped to 3-2 on the year.
This game's sub-title could have been the Chaz'ani Douglas show. The rookie forward from East Hartford, Conn. came off the bench today for Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein, logged 77 minutes and played extremely well. On the offensive side of the ball, she was all over the field, recording seven shots (two on goals). Her first goal of her collegiate career came just 17 seconds into the second half. She received a feed from sophomore midfielder Jackie Karras (Nesconset, N.Y.) and plugged it into the back of the netting from about 15 yards out.
Mercy dominated the shots game as the Mavericks recorded 22, compared to the Falcons' five.
In goal, freshman Krystal Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) recorded two saves for her first win in a Mercy uniform (1-4). Bentley freshman goalie Nicole Derba (Franklin, Mass.) stopped five shots.
Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday when they host the University of Bridgeport as they open up East Coast Conference play. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m.
