Field Hockey's Struggles Continue; Falls to Stevens Institute, 6-0

HOBOKEN, N.J. (Sept. 14, 2011) – On Wednesday night, the Mercy College field hockey squad dropped its contest versus the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks, 6-0, in Hoboken, N.J. With the victory, the Ducks improved to 1-3 overall. Following the defeat, the Mavericks fell to 0-6 on the season.
The Ducks scored three goals in the first half and three in the second. Mary Nikish recorded two of the six Stevens' tallies, while Mallory Swanson, Rachel Chavez, Jillian Fiebel and Caroline Packowski each scored once.
Guarding the net, sophomore goalie Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) stopped 16 shots for the Mavericks. On the end of the field, Ducks' netminder Krysten Suarez picked up the victory.
Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to the field on Friday as they open up the home portion of their 2011 schedule against Vassar College. Due to damages caused by Hurricane Irene, the game has been moved to Vassar's campus in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and will begin at 4:00 p.m. Mercy will remain the home team.
