Field Hockey Topped by Vassar, 2-0
Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Sept. 16, 2011) – On Friday afternoon, the Mercy College field hockey team played arguably its best game all season long so far against Vassar College. The Mavericks and the Brewers headed into halftime with no score on the board, but Vassar was able to score in the 63rd and 64th minutes to sneak out the victory. With the win, the Brewers improved to 3-2 overall. Following the defeat, the Mavericks fell to 0-7 on the season.
Although the contest was played at Vassar's campus, this game counts as a home game for Mercy. Due to damages caused by Hurricane Irene, the match had to be moved to Poughkeepsie.
Both goals were scored by Enya Cunningham. Vassar goalkeeper Maggie Brelis picked up the win.
In goal for the Mavericks, sophomore Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made four saves and was strapped with the loss.
Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday, September 24 when they travel to Reading, Pa. to take on Albright College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
