BOXSCORE - Mercy vs. Bridgeport

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2011) – Opening up East Coast Conference action for the 2011 season, the Mercy College women's soccer squad took to Mavericks Field versus the University of Bridgeport. The Mavericks were able to hold the Purple Knights' potent offense scoreless in the second half, but Bridgeport was able to find the back of the netting twice before halftime and that would end up being all they needed for the victory in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon.

Bridgeport senior forward Julia Colley (Harlow, England) fired the ball into the goal for the game's first tally of the day in the 11th minute. Mercy freshman goalkeeper Krystal Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) was out of place because she was retreating on blocking the previous Bridgeport shot that occurred just seconds earlier. Senior forward Kasey Kenny (Staten Island, N.Y.) had the assist for the guests.

Bridgeport (5-0, 1-0 ECC) picked up its second goal of the contest in the 42nd minute of play when Kenny headed the ball in after a pass from rookie back Anna Eriksson (Mariehamm, Finland).

The Mavericks (1-5, 0-1 ECC) mustered five shots on goal versus Bridgeport sophomore goalie Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden). In goal for Mercy, Krystal Guerrero made seven saves.

Mercy held the edge in shots (15-14) and corner kicks (3-1).

Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks return to action on Thursday when they travel to East Stroudsburg, Pa. to take on East Stroudsburg University. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
