BOXSCORE - Mercy vs. East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 22, 2011) – On Thursday evening, the Mercy College women's soccer squad lost a tight match-up against East Stroudsburg University, 2-1 in East Stroudsburg, Pa. With the victory, the Warriors improved to 4-3-1 overall. Following the defeat, the Mavericks are now 1-6 on the season.

ESU sophomore back Carly Collins (Monroe, N.Y.) started the game's scoring in the 19th minute of play when she scored off a penalty kick. Mercy was able to find the equalizer 10 minutes later when junior midfielder Viridiana Ortega (Los Angeles, Calif.) notched her first tally in a Mavericks uniform. Ortega punched the ball in off a free kick.

Coming out of halftime, the two clubs were still knotted at 1-all. However, in the 55th minute, Warriors senior forward Megan Keiser (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) scored an unassisted goal to give East Stroudsburg a 2-1 lead. It was an advantage the Warriors would not relinquish the rest of regulation.

Between the pipes for Mercy, freshman Krystal Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) recorded five saves. Her counterpart, ESU senior goalkeeper Melissa Myers (Levittown, N.Y.), stopped one shot.

Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks return home to welcome East Coast Conference-foe Queens College to Mavericks Field on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
