BOXSCORE - Mercy vs. Limestone

PURCHASE, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2011) – On Sunday morning, the Mercy College field hockey squad played yet another tight game. The Mavericks dropped their contest against Limestone College today, 2-0, in Purchase, N.Y., where it was played at Manhattanville College. With the win, the Saints improved to 4-1 overall. Following the loss, the Mavericks are now 0-9 on the year.

Mercy held the opposition to just a pair of goals again – for the third-consecutive time. The Mavericks' defense has steadily improved as the 2011 season has gone on and the backline is preventing more and more shots from coming the goalkeeper's way.

The two Saints' goals were netted in the 25th and 35th minutes, by junior forward Abby Rummel (Reading, Pa.) and sophomore forward Tyller Butler (Easton, Md.), respectively. Junior forward Sara Parker (East Brunswick, N.J.) assisted on the first marker, while sophomore forward Bernice Jere (Harare, Zimbabwe) had the helper on Butler's tally.

For the Mavericks, sophomore defender Alexis Monserrate (Locust Valley, N.Y.), junior forward Callie Schwichtenberg (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman forward Marissa Kluber (Wading River, N.Y.) each had a shot on goal. Between the pipes, sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) recorded eight saves.

In goal for Limestone, sophomores Lindsay Hinton (Aurora, Colo.) and Rachael Sanders (Fayetteville, Pa.) split the game. The former had two saves, while Sanders stopped one shot.

Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action on Wednesday when they travel to New Haven, Conn. to take on Southern Connecticut State University. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
