C.W. Post Upends Men's Basketball Wednesday Night
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Jan. 11, 2012) – On Wednesday night, the Mercy College men's basketball team welcomed C.W. Post into Mercy Gymnasium for the Mavericks' first East Coast Conference home battle of the season. The Pioneers downed the Mavericks by a final score of 108-74 in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. With the win, C.W. Post improved to 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the league. Following the loss, Mercy dropped to 1-12 overall and 0-4 in the ECC.
With 14:58 remaining in the first half, the Mavericks held a two-point lead (14-12). The Pioneers then posted a 19-3 run, which included two dunks. The two teams went into halftime with the guests ahead 53-38.
The second half was just as tough for the Mavericks as while they struggled to find consistency on the offensive side of the court, the Pioneers continue to hold strong on theirs. By the end of the game, the scoreboard read, 108-74, in favor of the Pioneers.
For Mercy, junior forward Joseph Pope (Akron, Ohio) scored a team-best 14 points, while junior guard Jerrell Lawrence (Baldwin, N.Y.) and senior forward Kortney Parker (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) added 13 and 12, respectively.
For C.W. Post, graduate student guard Vince Rosario (Perth Amboy, N.J.) had a contest-high 25 points, while junior guard Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) contributed 22. Rookie forward Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) netted 17 points, and sophomore forward Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and senior guard Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) each put in 16 points.
Head Coach Adam Parmenter and the Mavericks return to the hardwood on Saturday when they host ECC-opponent Queens College. The opening tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
