Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Jan. 14, 2012) – On Saturday afternoon, the Mercy College men's basketball squad continued its portion of the East Coast Conference schedule as the Mavericks welcomed the Knights of Queens College into Mercy Gymnasium in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. However, due to the Mavericks having to play from behind in the second half, they could not overcome the Knights' advantage. Queens ended up victorious, 85-77.
The first half saw the Mavericks (1-13, 0-5 ECC) in control for most of it. With 16:19 remaining, Mercy junior guard Colin Senior (Hackensack, N.J.) nailed a three-point shot to up the Mavericks' lead to 15-6. The Knights (4-11, 3-2 ECC) then reeled off seven straight points.
At 11:24, the Mavericks tacked the distance between their opponents and themselves back on when a Kortney Parker (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) lay-up started a 6-1 run. However, the Knights continued to whittle their deficit down and when 2:43 rolled around, Queens had knotted the score at 36-all. A few points by each side made the score, 42-41, in favor of the Mavericks as halftime hit.
Halfway through the second half, the Knights played strongly and gained a 10-point edge (61-51). Queens' biggest lead of the day came at 2:15 when the Knights were up by 13 (81-68). Over the following two minutes, the Mavericks kept battling and because of a pair of three-balls by Senior and some free throws, Mercy trailed by only six points. However, with just eight seconds remaining in regulation, the Mavericks did not have enough time to complete the comeback. Queens held on to win, 85-77.
For Mercy, Senior scored a team-best 23 points, while junior forward Joseph Pope (Akron, Ohio) added 16. Sophomores Jordan Lee (Englewood, N.J.) and Chaz Morrish (Douglaston, N.Y.) posted solid games as well. Lee contributed 10 points and six rebounds, while Morrish netted 11 points and had four assists.
For Queens, sophomore guard Jeremiah Mordi (Valley Stream, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 33 points, while senior forward Khalil McDonald (Queens Village, N.Y.) amassed 18 of his own. Senior guard Edil Lacayo (Bronx, N.Y.) had 12.
