WILMINGTON, Del. (Jan. 19, 2012) – On Thursday evening, the Mercy College men's basketball team fell to non-conference-opponent Goldey-Beacom College by the final score of 72-48 at the Joseph Jones Center in Wilmington, Del. With the win, the Lightning improved to 8-7 on the year. Following the defeat, the Mavericks dropped to 1-15 overall.

The first half saw numerous lead changes and several tied-scores. With 3:52 remaining, the two teams were knotted at 22-all. The Lightning then reeled off eight straight points to take a 30-22 advantage into halftime.

The second stanza wasn't as kind to Mercy as the guests would have liked. Goldey-Beacom opened the half with a 12-4 run. The Mavericks were never able to recover from that burst. The Lightning shot 50% from field goal range in the second half, which helped ice any comeback attempts the Mavericks tried (Mercy shot 35.7% from the field).

For the Mavericks, junior forward Joseph Pope (Akron, Ohio) recorded a double-double as he scored 20 points and brought down 11 rebounds. Senior forward Kortney Parker (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) netted 10 points. Sophomore forward Kirk Bailey (Freeport, N.Y.) grabbed 10 rebounds off the bench.

For the Lightning, graduate forward Rich Flemming (Chester, Pa.) poured in a game-high 24 points, while rookie guard Marcus Porter (Wilmington, Del.) contributed 11 points.

Head Coach Adam Parmenter and the Mavericks return to the schedule on Saturday when they host East Coast Conference-foe St. Thomas Aquinas College at 3:00 p.m.
