Men's Basketball Edged by ECC-Opponent Dowling, 58-52
OAKDALE, N.Y. (Jan. 25, 2012) - On Wednesday evening, the Mercy College men's basketball team lost a tight match to East Coast Conference-opponent Dowling College, 58-52, in Oakdale, N.Y. With the win, the Golden Lions improved to 7-10 overall and 3-4 in the league. Following the loss, the Mavericks dropped to 2-16 on the year and 1-7 in the conference.
The Golden Lions never led the first half by more than six points. When the intermission rolled around, Mercy was down by just two points after sophomore guard Chaz Morrish (Douglaston, N.Y.) nailed a three-pointer with a little over a minute remaining. Dowling was up, 30-28.
Even though the highest lead Dowling would notch in the second stanza was in the double-digits, the Mavericks played the hosts hard. Without quitting, Mercy continued to drive and kept the score close. Unfortunately, six points was the closest they would get as the Mavericks fell 58-52.
For Mercy, sophomore forward Kirk Bailey (Freeport, N.Y.) paced the team with 10 points coming off the bench, while junior guard Colin Senior (Hackensack, N.J.) had nine points.
Head Coach Adam Parmenter and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday, Jan. 28 when they host the University of Bridgeport. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. The Purple Knights will be traveling with an audio broadcaster.
