OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Jan. 4, 2012) – On Wednesday night, the Mercy College men's basketball team saddled up for its third East Coast Conference battle of the season. Despite a second half that saw the same number of points from each club, the Mavericks were outscored in the first half and fell to the New York Institute of Technology, 74-56 at Recreation Hall in Old Westbury, N.Y.

Mercy (1-11, 0-3 ECC) went into halftime trailing 40-22. With the game knotted at 9-9 with 13:13 left, the Bears (4-7, 1-1 ECC) went on a 14-0 run to open up the first half in their favor. Despite matching NYIT's 34 points in the second stanza, the Mavericks were never able to recover from that Bears' scoring frenzy.

For the Mavericks, junior guard Colin Senior (Hackensack, N.J.) and junior forward Joseph Pope (Akron, Ohio) led the team with 11 points each, while junior forward LeBrandon Smith (Jamaica, N.Y.) added nine points and seven rebounds.

For the Bears, junior guard/forward Kayvon Roberts (Corona, N.Y.) paced the game with 17 points, while junior guard Antoine Brown (Washington, D.C.) contributed 16. Junior forward/center Azel Prather Jr. (Glenarden, Md.) and redshirt-freshman guard Jahleel Felix (Flushing, N.Y.) helped out with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Head Coach Adam Parmenter and his troops look to get back on the winning track when they play a week from today (Jan. 11). The Mavericks will host league-foe C.W. Post at 7:00 p.m.
