Women's Soccer Plays Nyack in Thrilling Overtime Heartbreaker
Box Score NYACK, N.Y. (Oct. 13, 2012) - The Mercy College women's soccer team headed into the first overtime period against Nyack College with the score knotted 1-1 after receiving a 19th minute from junior Jennifer Vega (Norwalk, Calif.). However, the Warriors were able to squeeze out a goal in the 99th minute to take the win, 2-1.
With the triumph, the Warriors improved to 7-6-1 overall. Following the defeat, the Mavericks slipped to 3-11 on the season.
In the 19th minute of the game, Vega scored off a feed from graduate back Mariah Darrah (Newburgh, N.Y.).
For the next 56 minutes, the Mavericks' defense held Nyack at bay and scoreless. The Warriors eventually evened the score in the 75th minute when Stacey Cervantes scored off a pass from Julia Losert.
With 39 seconds left in the first overtime period, Meghan Gore scored for Nyack to give them the 2-1 win.
In goal for the first time this season for the Mavericks, rookie Savannah Campana (Garden City Park, N.Y.) made a pair of saves.
A very even game, Mercy and Nyack had the same exact totals in shots (12) and corner kicks (1).
Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks return to the turf on Wednesday when they host East Coast Conference-foe Dowling College at 3:00 p.m.
