Znaniecki Records Double-Digit Saves for Field Hockey Versus Bellarmine

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 14, 2012) - On Sunday afternoon, the Mercy College field hockey squad narrowly lost to Bellarmine University, 2-0 at Mavericks Field in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. Junior goalkeeper Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Mercy's defensive back line put forth a great effort allowing just two goals to the Knights' offense, while Znaniecki notched 10 saves.

With the victory, the Knights improved to 5-7 overall, while the Mavericks fell to 1-12 on the season.

Alexis Van Wallaghen had the early goal for the Knights in the second mintue of the game to put Bellarmine ahead, 1-0. The rest of the first stanza remained 1-0 in favor of the Knights as Mercy's defense locked down the guests' scoring opportunities.

In the second half, Bellarmine recorded an insurance goal in the 56th minute when Brittany Raque scored to make it 2-0.

Mercy notched an impressive five defensive saves in the contest, with sophomore Danielle Jones (Shrewsbury, Mass.) leading the way with three. Juniors Christine Feighan (Brewster, N.Y.) and Tracey Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) had one apiece. Prior to the game, Jones ranked 10th in the nation in defensive saves.

Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action on Tuesday when they host Richard Stockton College in their 2012 home finale. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
