Field Hockey Wraps Up Season Against Lindenwood
Box Score GAFFNEY, S.C. (Oct. 27, 2012) - The Mercy College field hockey team wrapped up its 2012 season this morning in Gaffney, S.C. on the campus of Limestone College in a 4-1 defeat to Lindenwood University. With the win, Lindenwood improved to 7-6 on the year, while Mercy fell to 2-15 overall.
Kristi O'Connor had the first half's lone goal for Lindenwood in the 14th minute.
Following the intermission, Lindenwood put two more markers on the scoreboard before Mercy struck for its first goal of the contest. In the 51st minute, sophomore Yolie Nyero (Carlisle, Pa.) fired one past the Lindenwood goalkeeper to cut the deficit to 3-1.
In the 56th minute, Lindenwood was able to add another goal, which would be the final of the day.
For the Mavericks, junior goalkeeper Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made 12 saves to close out her campaign with 155 total. Nyero's goal was her second of the season.
For Lindenwood, O'Connor finished with a hat trick, scoring three times, while netminder Victoria Gil stopped one shot between the pipes.
