Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 5, 2012) – Junior libero Mallorie Hopkins (Commerce, Calif.) set a new career high with a whopping 25 digs and sophomore outside hitter Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season as the Mercy College volleyball team faced off against new East Coast Conference opponent Roberts Wesleyan College on Friday night.
The Redhawks played perhaps their best match of the year in posting a .333 team hitting percentage thanks to a mere eight attacking errors and took the match, improving to 7-8 overall and 3-2 in the ECC while Mercy drops to 2-14 (0-6).
Roberts Wesleyan wasted no time in taking control of the match, jumping out to a 7-2 lead and extending it to 20-10 before closing out the first set at 25-16. Mercy recovered to contest the second set much more evenly, even taking the lead at 13-11 and holding it as late as 15-14 before the Redhawks stormed back with six straight points and took the set, 25-19. The Mavericks led for most of the third set as well and were even in position to win as they led 18-12, but Roberts Wesleyan rattled off a 5-1 run and closed things out with six of the final seven points to sneak away with the set, 25-22, as well as the match.
White led the Mavericks with 14 kills and 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Sophomore setter McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz.) made 24 assists, including the 1,000th of her career, and Hopkins' 25 digs led the match.
Sophomore middle blocker Kendall Havener (Alpine, Calif.) led three Raiders in double-digit kills and .300-plus hitting percentages with 11, while the other two – senior outside hitters Alexa Antoni (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and Gisela Ocasio (San Juan, Puerto Rico) – each posted double-doubles in kills and digs. Freshman setter Maggie Concannon (Lancaster, N.Y.) made 30 assists and freshman libero Olivia Zureck (Lancaster, N.Y.) led the squad with 12 digs.
Head Coach Taneisha Cantave and the Mavericks will return from their three-game road trip to host winless non-conference foe Cheyney University (0-15) on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 6:00 p.m.
