Field Hockey Spars Against Saint Anselm at Mavericks Field
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2012) – On a rainy and cold Sunday afternoon, the Mercy College field hockey squad hosted Saint Anselm College at Mavericks Field on the Dobbs Ferry campus. The Hawks squeezed out a 3-0 victory over the Mavericks. With the win, the Hawks improved to 6-8 overall, while the Mavericks fell to 1-9 on the year.
The Mercy defense came up huge in the first half through the combination of a strong backline and a clutch performance by junior goalkeeper Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.). With just 46 seconds left until a scoreless halftime intermission, however, Hawks' freshman forward Richelle Davis (Enfield, Conn.) found the back of the netting off a rebound for the game's first goal.
The Hawks were able to pick up an insurance goal in the second half when senior forward Kristina Katsikis (Hanover, Mass.) scored in the 51st minute. Freshman forward Canada Stewart (Lynnfield, Mass.) had the assist. With 1:28 left in the game, the Hawks added a third goal from rookie forward Colleen Sears (Danvers, Mass.).
In goal for the Mavericks, Znaniecki stopped seven shots.
Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action on Tuesday when they play at Kean University beginning at 7:30 p.m.
