Men's Basketball Plays Another Final Seconds Thriller Against Nyack

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Nov. 17, 2012) - On Saturday afternoon, the Mercy College men's basketball team fell to nearby Nyack College, 67-64 at the Mercy Gymnasium. With the win, the Warriors improved to 1-3 overall. Following the loss, the Mavericks dropped to 0-4 on the year.

Throughout the first 10 minutes of the game, the Mavericks were able to hold the scoring advantage. The Warriors knotted the game up at 23-all with 5:16 left when Miguel Martin hit both free throws.

With 50 seconds remaining before the intermission, Mercy senior forward Joseph Pope (Akron, Ohio) slammed down a monster dunk to take a 35-34 lead over Nyack. With 13 seconds on the scoreboard, the Warriors converted on a couple of free throws to end the first half with a 36-35 advantage.

In the second half, the Mavericks were down 61-55 with 3:51 remaining in regulation. Mercy popped off a 5-2 run to cut its deficit to 63-60. Pope scored all five points in the run.

Then, sophomore wing Terrance Murchie (Franklin Square, N.Y.) made two foul shots to bring the score to within one (63-62). The Warriors, however, were able to hang on in the final seconds for the 67-64 victory.

For the Mavericks, Pope netted 18 points and brought down nine rebounds, while junior forward Kirk Bailey (Freeport, N.Y.) scored 14 and had seven boards. Junior guard Remi Mignott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 10 off the bench.

For the Warriors, Chris Hampton had 24 points for the game-high, while Tevin Evans added 12. Miguel Martin scored 11.

Head Coach Adam Parmenter and the Mavericks return to action on Wednesday, November 28 when they host Goldey-Beacom College at 7:30 p.m.
